Ci ha protetto Santa Vagabunda

Ouro Preto - Campos de Jordao
08/10/2001

SAINT VAGABUNDA HELPED US

The best thing is that we are still here to write about today. We started 7.02 a.m., and we arrived at 10.08 p.m. During these 15 hours everything happened. Regularity, that was the best thing we could do, was on the contrary a speed test. Average was 55 km/h on murderer gravel. We tried to do it but at the first control we already were one minute late. Then, during a hard downhill, with big stones and deep hols, we lost our silencer. We stopped and walked back to find and take it. Three times we tried to fix the rest but immediately it was broken again. So we had a bigger delay at the next two controls. Then we finally found a bodybuilder (!) Gerardo. He was wonderful. He worked only with a shifting spanner, a hummer, a jack and a welder machine. He fit our silencer perfectly but, as soon as we tried to start, we heard a nasty noise. He found the problem and worked on it until Vagabunda was ok. We were really late. It was 3.15 p.m. and we had to drive 400 kilometres. Very soon it was dark and it was raining. Our road book has some pink pages with different roads for pre war cars and we decided to change our road. We found gravel, terrible mud because it was still raining, very hard uphill so that we had to put often first gear. On the way we sow a 4x4 car out of the road nobody inside or outside. So we realized that organizers made a mistake and that we were driving the 4x4 section. Almost 5 times we thought it was finished, we could stay there all the night. But Saint Vagabunda resisted and she brought us in the hotel. Since tomorrow we will be only tourists.
